A little survey

November 18, 2009

1. What is your favorite thing to snack on while your blogging?
Probably just something to drink instead of eat, like a Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper from Sonic!

2. What is one thing you wouldn’t want to live without?
My cell phone- I am beyond connected to it

3. Beach, Mountains, or Farm? Where would you live if you had a choice?
Mountains- hands down.  I’m not a big fan of the Beach, and Farms smell :-)

4. What’s your least favorite chore/household duty?
Dusting- I HATE dusting!

5. Who do people say you remind them of?
No one really- I guess I am just unique… haha

6. Prefer parties and socializing or staying home with the fam?
Staying home with family

7. What’s your all time favorite movie?
This is a tough one because there are just so many- but all time favorite would have to be…Love’s Enduring Promise- the 2nd in the Love Comes Softly movies.  I love how Willie finally wins Missy’s heart in the end!

8. Do you sleep in your make-up or remove it like a good little girl every night?
When I do wear make-up, I sleep in it… bad girl!

9. Do you have a hidden talent or a deep desire to learn something that you’ve never had a chance to learn? What is it?

10. What’s one strange thing you’re really good at?
I’m really good at making lasagna according to my husband

11. What first attracted you to your spouse?
I’m honestly not sure what the first thing was, but I think it was more that he was willing to give me a hard time back when I gave him one.

12. What is something you love to smell?
Lemon Lavender candle from Yankee Candles… and Christmas scents

13. Tell something about you that you know irritates people.
I talk way too much, way too fast, way too much

14. When you have extra money, what’s the first thing you think to do with it?
Go buy something cute for Kaitlyn or dinner out

15. Are you a silent laugher or a loud laugher? What makes you laugh the hardest?
I’m a medium laugher- being tickled makes me laugh the hardest to the point of gasping for air

16. Where is your favorite place to shop?
Target and Old Navy- and Carter’s now that I have a little girl to dress up

17. What’s one thing you’d do more often if you had more time?
If I didn’t work, I would go to MOPS at church and be more involved with other women my age

18. Are you a big spender or frugal?
Very frugal- I always shop for the best deals and very rarely pay full price for anything.

19. Who is your favorite character of all time?
Not sure… Cliff Huxtable is definitely on the list

20. Would you want to be famous?
No- I like my mediocre life living away from the spotlight where only few know me.

Baby Einstein

November 16, 2009

In light of the recent Baby Einstein controversy- and after seeing the cartoon clip below- I wanted to post a quick blog on the subject.  I was never foolish enough to believe puppets dancing to the tune of Mozart would turn my baby into the next Mensa member- but the classical music is soothing and like the cartoon below… mommy has to get things done sometimes!  Have a good Monday!

Today is the 40th birthday of Sesame Street!  I love watching it as a little girl and attribute my love of reading… and cookies! to watching it.   So thanks SS for the wonderful memories!

Weaning…

October 27, 2009

I am kinda, sorta… starting to wean Kaitlyn.  Things are going good so far.  I started by only pumping 1 time at work the week of October 12, last week I only pumped 2 Monday and Wednesday Morning and Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at work.  Thursday I did not pump because of Will’s surgery-  I was afraid if I left to do it, they would come to tell me he was out of surgery or out of recovery and I would not be there, and Friday because I just didn’t feel like it.  I started this week of the same way- no pumping the past 2 mornings and no pumping at work- so far, so good in regards to engorgement or pain – hopefully things will continue to go ok.  Something that is helping to make things easier is that Kaitlyn has been biting me off and on for the last month!  She stopped for about a week and half, but started again Friday morning.  I think she is doing it when the side she is on is empty, and not because she desires to hurt me.  Problem is… it hurts- a lot!  And I have a really hard time getting on to her like all the “experts” say to do, because she just looks at me and starts to cry.  Instead I have just been switching sides or if she is already on the 2nd side, giving her her pacifier and telling her that she is done eating.  Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn’t.  I would really like to continue to nurse her morning and night as long as she will let me, but if she keeps biting… I’m going to have to just stop all together.  Luckily the freezer is still full of frozen BM, so she will still get it for a while even after I stop.

Emotionally I am doing ok too- Saturday after feeding her and getting bitten… again… I just held her for a moment, cried, and talked to her and told her how special this time in our lives has been, but that things were going to be changing soon.  I have been so blessed and fortunate to nurse her as long as I have, especially since I am a FT working mom.  My PISA has been my “best friend” for the past almost 11 months- but I was so glad to not lug it into work yesterday.  My advice to anyone who is even considering BF is to just try it, take things one day at a time in the beginning, set small goals (like 1 wk, 3 wks, 6 wks, 12 weeks, 6 months, 9 months, 1 yr) , and invest in a good pump if you will be working- even if only part time.   Every ounce of BM you provide your child is better than none at all.  I realize too though that someone people are either not able to BF for various reasons, or choose not to for various reasons- and that is ok!  I hate hearing people make others feel bad for choosing not to BF- it’s a personal choice that is unique to every mother and child and is something each mother has chose for herself.  Off my soap box now… :-)

Well- I guess that is all for this update!  I will try to post some pics and all from tomorrow night as we dress Kaitlyn in her first Halloween costume and take her to Patchville at church!  Have a great week everyone!

9 and 10 months- double update

October 16, 2009

My baby is fastly approaching the line where she is no longer a baby, and it makes me so sad :-(   She knows that she is getting to that point too and daily does things to show me that she is growing and changing.  She now has 7- yes 7- teeth, refuses to eat any pureed baby food except fruits, and is transitioning from the bottle to a cup as we speak.  Her favorite foods are waffles, goldfish crackers, and spaghetti (a baby after her mama’s heart).  While she says many words and “phrases”, I do not think she associates them with anything in particular.  She loves to show us how she can stand up on furniture every chance she gets and has even tried a few times to let go- only to fall on her hiney flat to the ground.  She did absolutely wonderful last month on our trip to Disney and really seemed to have a lot of fun.  They lost our luggage and did not find it until 930 that night- so we missed out on the fireworks :-( and that was kind of disappointing.  Kaitlyn was so ready to go to bed once we got back and she fell right asleep after her bath, so it worked out for the best.  I just hate that the boys missed out on seeing them.  God worked it out though- Disney ended up sending us 4 tickets to use at a later time for all of out trouble-so we will be going back very soon!  This weekend will also mark a very big milestone for both Kaitlyn and me- she is spending the night with my parents tonight- this will be the first time since her conception we have spent a night a part.  I know she will be fine and in good hands, but it still has me on edge and sad.  She has been sleeping through the night for months, so you do not even know she is there at night- but Will and my anniversary is next Tuesday so we are going out tonight and this will give us the chance to stay out later than we normally would and for me to sleep in a little in the morning.  I will be getting her back around 830am or so- which will come to about 16 hours away from her.  It had to eventually happen, so now is as good a time as ever!

There is not much else really going on in our little world.  I am still nursing, but have started to cut back to 2 pump sessions a day (1 first thing in the morning and 1 at work) since Kaitlyn is only nursing/ getting a bottle 4 times a day now.  Dr Ben gave us the go ahead to start transitioning to whole milk at the beginning of next month- provided all goes as planned, Kaitlyn will be on milk during the day and nursing only morning and night.  I plan to keep nursing her at those times until the end of cold and flu season if she will let me.  She has already had one nasty cold that led to a double ear infection so I want to do what ever I can to up her immunities and keep her well this winter.  I also still have a good bit of frozen BM in the freezer that I will continue to use periodically with her until she weans herself or I wean her.

Well, I guess that is all for now.  Sorry this post is so long and so random.  The weather has me very tired and not feeling well- so my mind is a little scatter.  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

update- mommy style

August 31, 2009

Here is a quick update for all 2 of you who may be interested.  Time is a little crunched right now- so please enjoy the following bullet points! :-)

  • Kaitlyn is cutting 4 teeth- all on the top- all at once!!! Ouch!
  • Kaitlyn has an ear infection in her right ear thanks to teething mentioned above- double ouch
  • Kaitlyn is crawling faster and faster everyday and pulling up even more when she can
  • I have started to supplement when needed with formula- I was worried Kaitlyn would not like the taste, but she drank it right down.
  • My supply has a dipped now that AF has returned- The plan is to use my freezer stash when need, supplement with formula when needed, and try not to worry about it.
  • The boys start school tomorrow- 3rd and 4th grade!! When Will and I began to date they were in Kindergarten and 1st- time FLIES!!!
  • I am going to start to go to a bible study on Monday nights at the church while Will stays home with the kids- pray for me.   I need the Christian fellowship, but I have a hard time leaving Kaitlyn at night and the weekends
  • Pray for Kaitlyn, separation anxiety has kicked in full force… for us both!  She does fine at Daycare, but does not do well at nights with Will or on the weekends with church nursery.
  • Pray that the boys will have a good start to school, make good friends, and make good choices.
  • Pray for me at work, many things are testing me.  I love my job, but I can only take so much.

I think that is all for right now.  I will try to post something a little more detailed soon along with some pictures.  I hope everyone has a great week!
